Moon Magick and Manifestation
Using the Phases of the Moon
New Moon 1st Quarter:
This energy can be used for new beginnings and starting new projects of all kinds including manifestation relating to a new job, your career, personal development, advancing on a chosen path, health and romance.New Moon workings can be done from the day of the new moon to three-and-a-half days after.
Waxing Moon:
2nd Quarter – This is the time of beginnings, constructive magic, health and healing, fertility, psychic awareness, beauty. The time from the New Moon through the first quarter to the Full Moon is a good time to perform healing rituals, positive magick, and spells that increase love, good luck, growth of any kind, sexual desire, courage, friendship and wealth.
Waxing Moon Magick is normally performed from seven to fourteen days after the new moon.
Full Moon:
3rd Quarter – Protection, Love, Healing Purification, Money, Travel and psychic awareness. The period of the Full Moon increases the powers of extrasensory perception, and is the proper time to perform lunar goddess invocations, fertility rites, transformations, spirit conjurations, and spells that increase psychic abilities and prophetic dreams.
The Full moon holds great power and energy and is the strongest time of the month to perform magickal workings. It is a great time for performing divinations or for working magick to increase magickal power. The Full Moon means energy is heightened for any magickal work you would like to do. especially work in psychic areas, therefore any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, should be done at this time.
Full Moon magick can be conjured during the 3 days prior to the rise of the Full Moon, the night of the Full Moon and during the 3 days after.
Meeting and Working with Lady Luna
Since the beginning of time, the Moon has held a special place within all of creation and in each of our lives. Considering that the moon governs the waters – the ebb and flow of the tides of the ocean – and that our bodies are approximately 70% ‘water’, this is no wonder!
In spite of our close relationship with the moon, the fact that we all talk about the Moon, think about the Moon and look up at the Moon, it still remains a mystery to us.. The light of the Moon seems to contain a magic all its own, yet something that we all wish to share in, the allure of the Moon has a place in our hearts, as it did in the hearts of our ancestors.
The Moon was and still is seen as a symbol of the Goddess. Because of this, the light of the Moon is considered a source of energy and magick, and therefore many choose to honor the cycles of the moon to mark the cycles of their own lives, whilst many practice magic at Full Moon to tap into the energy thought to exist at this time.
In ancient times the Gnostic sect of Naassians believed in a primordial being known as “the heavenly horn of the moon.” The Moon was the Great Mother. To the Romans, the morality of the Moon Goddess was above that of the Sun God and In many cultures the Moon Goddess and the Creatress were the same. Polynesians called the Creatress Hina, “Moon.” She was the first woman, and every woman is a wahine, made in the image of Hina. Scandinavians sometimes called the Creatress Mardoll, “Moon Shining Over the Sea.” Sioux Native Americans call the moon The Old Woman Who Never Dies whilst Iroquois call her “Eternal One.” The Gaelic name of the Moon, gealach, came form Gala or Galata, the original Moon-Mother of Gaelic and Gaulish tribes. Britain used to be called Albion, the milk-white Moon-Goddess. The Moon was called Metra, which means Mother , “whose love penetrated everywhere.” In the Basque language, the words for deity and moon are the same. The root word for both “moon” and “mind” was the Indo-European manas, mana, or men, representing the Great Mother’s “wise blood” in women, governed by the Moon. The derivative mania used to mean ecstatic revelation, like lunacy used to mean possession by spirit of Luna, the Moon. To be Moon-Touched or Moon-Struck meant to be chosen by the Goddess and it was only when patriarchal thinkers belittled the Goddess that these words came to mean craziness.
Orphic and Pythagorean sects viewed the Moon as the home of the dead, a female gate known as Yoni. Souls passed through on the way to the paradise fields of the stars. Greeks often located the Elysian Fields, home of the blessed dead, in the moon.. Roman religion taught that “the souls of the just are purified in the Moon.” Because the moon was the holder of souls between reincarnations, it sheltered both the dead and unborn, who were one in the same. The Moon Goddess is believed to have created time, with all its cycles of creation, growth, decline, and destruction.
The Moon was to have been the receptacle of menstrual blood by which each mother formed the life of her child. This sacred taboo moon-fluid kept even the Gods alive. The moon was “the cup of the fluid of life immortal, quickening the vegetable realm and whatsoever grows in the sub-lunar sphere, quickening also the immortals on high.”
The regularity of the Moon’s ability to shape shift was a way for ancient civilizations to be able to keep time, and the cycles of the Moon were the basis of the earliest calendars. Farmers needed to know when to plant and to harvest, merchants needed to know when to expect to have crops for sale. It was also necessary to have an accurate gauge of the season to be prepared for the annual flooding of the River Nile, none of which could take place without an accurate measure of time. Although the next calendar designed by the Egyptians was based on solar cycles, which gave them a more accurate measure of time, the Lunar Calendar is still used throughout the world and by many cultures for many aspects of their work, agriculture and various other processes.
Every time the Moon enters a new phase there is a shift in the electro-magnetic field of Earth. The power and consciousness behind each lunar phase is powerful and can be very influential if you will embrace its gifts. Using the direction and movement of the moon, you may learn how to stay emotionally and physically balanced and also to generate abundance using the gift of attraction that Lady Luna offers us.
The overall cycle of the phases governs the acceleration or deceleration of growth and momentum. Ideally, one would start projects and build them when the Moon is increasing in light – on other words “waxing” – from New Moon to Full Moon. From the Full Moon to the New Moon, the Moon is decreasing in light – “waning” – when you want to bring whatever activities you can to completion.
Each phase represents a segment of time within the monthly lunation cycle as a whole. With practice you will begin to see how each phase is not an isolated period within itself, but rather a consequence of the previous phase and a preparation for the following one. Understanding the lunar rhythms also brings the realization that everything in life unfolds at exactly the right moment within the laws of Divine timing.
Waning Moon:
4th Quarter – Banishments of habits, addictions, disease and negatives. Jealousy, guilt and old hurts are released. The WANING moon is the period between the full moon and the dark moon and its energy can be used for banishing and rejecting those things that influence us in a negative way and sabotage our happiness and fulfilment. Negative emotions, diseases, ailments, can all be let go. We can do workto get rid of money problems,(rather than increasing money we are banishing poverty or lack consciousness, for this is normally at the root of financial problems). This is the time to get rid of unwanted things… good for weight loss, bad habits, negative energy or people in our lives and for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity.
Waning Moon Magick is practiced from three-and-a-half to ten-and-a-half days after the full moon.
Dark Moon:
Void Of Course – during this period one cannot see the moon and it is advised that no magick is performed at this time.
What is called for here is a time to go within and use meditation and quiet contemplation to evaluate what you have set out to do, what you have achieved, how you feel about the process, where you are on your path and where you are going,… Not only is this a time to replenish your energies, but it is also and most importantly, a time to re-evaluate your intent and vision for your life and how the work you are doing, is contributing to your intent, your highest good and the highest good of all who are closely related to you and the work you do and have been doing.
Dark Moon period occurs from ten-and-a-half to fourteen days after the full moon and 3 days prior to the New Moon.
